Troubleshooting & FAQ
Find answers to common questions and issues with the Intellidwell Sprinkler Controller.
Wi-Fi Connectivity Issues
The controller cannot connect to my home Wi-Fi
Ensure that your router is broadcasting a 2.4GHz Wi-Fi band. The ESP32 micro-chip on the sprinkler controller is not compatible with 5GHz Wi-Fi networks. If you have a combined mesh network, ensure that it supports 2.4GHz legacy devices.
Wi-Fi signal keeps dropping
Check the RSSI value on the device status panel. An RSSI below **-75dBm** indicates a weak connection. If the controller is mounted in a metal box or behind stucco walls, signal range can drop. Consider relocating the controller closer to an access point or adding a range extender.
How do I reset my Wi-Fi credentials?
If you change your home router password, you must reset the controller's Wi-Fi memory to restart the local setup AP:
Remove the magnetic front casing. Locate the physical push-button switch marked BOOT / RESET on the green internal controller board.
Press and hold the button down for **10 full seconds**. The onboard LED will turn solid, blink three times, and then go off.
Release the button. The controller will automatically reboot, erase its old network credentials, and launch the intelidwellSC Wi-Fi access point (password Sprinkler12345) again.
Hardware & Solenoid Issues
A specific sprinkler zone won't turn on
First, test if the solenoid valve works by bypassing the controller. Ensure the 24VAC transformer is plugged in. Briefly touch the zone wire to the 24VAC active terminal. If the valve opens, the wiring and solenoid are intact.
If the valve does not open during the bypass test, check for:
- A corroded common ground connection out in the valve box (most common cause).
- A burned-out solenoid coil (test solenoid resistance with a multimeter; standard resistance should be between 20 and 60 ohms).
- A cut or broken zone wire in the ground.
All zones refuse to water
Verify that your Common wire is inserted securely into the COM terminal block. If the white Common line is disconnected, none of the zone valves can return power, preventing them from completing the circuit and opening.
