Daily Routines & Household Features
Configuring Family Members, Gamified Sticker Tracking, To-Dos, and Bulletin Messages
Family Hub is engineered so that everyoneβfrom toddlers earning morning routine stickers to parents managing grocery errands and high-school sportsβcan interact with the same board without cognitive overload.
1. Family Members Management
Everything in Family Hub revolves around your family roster. When you configure your family members, their avatars and color badges dynamically populate:
- The top navigation header (with live presence badges for parents).
- The 50-day sticker charts tab (automatically creating side-by-side tracks for every child).
- The family to-do list assignee filter buttons.
- The bulletin board message sender selection.
How to Add or Edit a Family Member:
Open Settings
Click the Settings (βοΈ) icon on the top right of the dashboard.
Locate Family Members
Scroll down to the Family Members card. You will see a list of current members with their avatars, roles, and action buttons.
Tap "Add Member" or "Edit" (βοΈ)
A slide-over drawer opens with form fields optimized for both desktop and mobile touchscreens.
Fill in Member Details
- Full Name: e.g., "Tayleur", "Tanner", "Anders", "Scottie".
- Role: Choose Parent, Child, or Other. Members marked as Child are automatically enrolled in the 50-Day Sticker Chart.
- Email Address (Optional): Enter their email to allow them to create an account and access the shared household dashboard.
- Color Theme: Select a primary color swatch for their badges and task chips.
- Avatar Emoji: Pick an avatar from the interactive emoji grid.
- Home Assistant Person Entity (Optional): e.g.,
person.tanner_nelsonfor real-time Home/Away GPS tracking.
Save Member
Click Save Member. The dashboard updates immediately across all connected screens.
2. Emoji Avatars & Role Colors
Rather than requiring photos to be uploaded and resized, Family Hub provides a curated collection of friendly high-resolution system emoji avatars that render crisp and clean on high-DPI tablets and phones:
Avatars including π¨ (Dad), π© (Mom), π§ (Person), π§ (Beard), π©βπ¦°, π¨βπ¦±. Setting the role to Parent enables presence tracking integration.
Avatars including π¦ (Boy), π§ (Girl), πΆ (Toddler/Baby), π§ (Child). Automatically creates an individual 50-Day Sticker Chart track.
Avatars including πΆ (Dog), π± (Cat), π΅ (Grandma), π΄ (Grandpa) for tracking pet chores or visiting family members.
3. 50-Day Sticker Motivation Chart
The 50-Day Sticker Chart is one of the centerpiece features on the kitchen wall kiosk. It replaces paper chore and habit charts with an interactive, gamified journey designed to inspire children.
- Morning & Bedtime Routines: Brushing teeth, making bed, and getting dressed without reminders.
- Daily Reading Habit: 20 minutes of reading practice each day.
- Potty Training: Rewarding consecutive successful dry days for toddlers.
- Daily Chores: Emptying the dishwasher, feeding the pets, cleaning backpacks.
- Music Practice: Practicing piano or violin 5 days a week.
How the Sticker Chart Operates:
When you select the Stickers tab, the dashboard displays side-by-side progression lanes for each child in the household (e.g. Anders, Scottie):
- 50 Progressive Nodes: Each day is numbered 1 through 50 in an engaging road-like path.
- Single-Tap Placement: Tapping the next available day number opens the sticker picker drawer.
- Sticker Catalog: Children choose from popular vibrant stickers: β π π¦ π π― π¨ β½ π¦ π¦ β‘ πΈ π πΎ π₯ π©
- Completion Timestamps: Each completed node records the exact date it was earned, preventing disputes about whether a task was completed today.
4. Milestone Rewards, Audio Chimes & Confetti
Motivation charts often fail when the reward is only at the very end of a 50-day period. Family Hub solves this with intermediate milestone checkpoints:
| Milestone | Node Badge | Celebration Animation | Suggested Family Reward |
|---|---|---|---|
| Day 10 | Bronze Badge π₯ | Confetti burst + Chime 1 | Trip to the ice cream parlor or extra 30 minutes of playground time. |
| Day 20 | Silver Badge π₯ | Confetti burst + Chime 2 | Pick Friday night dinner (pizza night or favorite tacos). |
| Day 30 | Gold Badge π₯ | Dual confetti cannons + Fanfare | Small toy, craft kit, or trip to the bookstore. |
| Day 40 | Diamond Star π | Full-screen sparkle + Fanfare | Family movie theater outing or bowling afternoon. |
| Day 50 | Grand Trophy π | Extended confetti shower + Victory audio | Major reward: Theme park visit, big Lego set, or zoo trip! |
When a child taps to place their sticker, the kiosk plays a satisfying crisp chime through the tablet speaker and triggers a canvas-rendered canvas-confetti explosion across the screen. Kids eagerly look forward to completing their daily chores just to press the button!
5. Shared To-Do & Task Management
Family Hub includes a collaborative task manager built specifically for busy homes. Unlike complex project management apps, tasks here are clear, visual, and fast to manipulate:
Quick Task Entry
Type a task description (e.g., "Pack soccer cleats" or "Buy air filters") in the input bar and press Enter or tap Add.
Assigning Tasks to Family Members
Select an assignee chip directly on the task item. The assignee choices dynamically match your household members (with their avatar emoji and role color).
Filter by Assignee
At the top of the To-Do card, tap any family member's avatar to instantly filter the list to only their assigned chores. Tap All to view the full household list.
1-Tap Checkoff
Tapping the circular checkbox marks the task complete with a smooth strike-through animation, immediately synchronizing to all other household phones and tablets.
6. Home Assistant Shopping List Sync
If your household uses smart speakers (such as Amazon Alexa, Google Nest, or Home Assistant Assist voice satellites), grocery items are often dictated aloud in the kitchen.
Family Hub connects directly to Home Assistant's built-in todo.shopping entity. When enabled:
- Items spoken to smart speakers ("Add milk to the shopping list") appear in real time on the Family Hub dashboard.
- Items added on the Family Hub touch kiosk push into Home Assistant's shopping list.
- When you check off groceries while walking through Costco or the supermarket on your mobile phone, they clear from the kiosk display immediately.
7. Family Bulletin Board
The Family Bulletin Board replaces paper sticky notes on the microwave or refrigerator. It serves as a digital whiteboard for important messages:
"Mom is picking up Anders from practice at 4:15. Dad has Scottie at gymnastics."
"Dinner tonight: Homemade lasagna and garlic bread at 6:00 PM!"
"Good luck on your math spelling test today Anders! You've got this! β"
Anyone in the family can post a note by selecting their avatar and typing a message. Messages display chronologically with author avatars, names, and timestamps.
8. Recipe Box & Cookbook Integration
The Cookbook tab provides your family with a centralized meal preparation hub designed for kitchen counters and tablets. It combines offline-first SQL database persistence with optional Nextcloud Cookbook synchronization.
No external cloud dependencies required. Recipes are stored safely in Family Hub's MySQL database, scoped privately to your household.
Paste any web URL from food blogs or cooking websites. The intelligent scraper extracts the title, prep/cook time, yield, photo, ingredients, and step-by-step instructions instantly.
If your household uses Nextcloud Cookbook, configure your server URL and App Password in Settings to view, search, and import recipes directly into your cloud library.
Select any ingredients needed while browsing a recipe and tap "Add to Shopping List" to push them straight to your shared grocery list and Home Assistant.
- Import from Link: Paste any recipe website URL and click "Fetch & Autofill". The system automatically inspects the page for Schema.org Recipe metadata, loads ingredients and instructions into editable fields, and allows you to customize them before saving.
- Enter Manually: Type your family's favorite secret recipes directly into the modal with fields for name, category, prep/cook time, photo URL, ingredients, instructions, and notes.
- Multi-Destination Support: Choose where each recipe should be stored: Family Hub (SQL Database), Nextcloud Cookbook, or Both.
